India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, shared his perspective on the current diplomatic tension with the Maldives, emphasizing that politics is complex. He acknowledged that not everyone in every country will always align with India’s stance. This observation comes amid the backdrop of the Maldives setting a deadline of March 15 for India to withdraw its troops from the island.

“During a lively discussion at the Manthan: Townhall event in Nagpur, Maharashtra, EAM Jaishankar shared a down-to-earth perspective, remarking, ‘Politics is a dynamic arena. It’s like a rollercoaster; you can’t always expect everyone around the world to nod in agreement with us every single day.'”

Honestly, our strategy over the once decade has concentrated on fostering a robust connection. We have seen considerable success in erecting strong ties. Anyhow of the political ups and campo, our end is to insure that the people of our nation and society at large maintain positive sentiments toward India. It’s pivotal that they fete the significance of maintaining favorable relations with our country,” explained External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.

Jaishankar shared that India is actively involved in helping other nations with projects like building roads, ensuring electricity supply, facilitating trade, making investments, and promoting tourism. However, he acknowledged that sometimes disagreements arise, requiring diplomatic efforts to resolve issues and restore positive relations.

The friendship between India and the Maldives hit a rough patch when three Maldivian ministers made disrespectful comments about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media. Despite the Maldives government distancing itself from these remarks, tensions escalated. President Mohamed Muizzu, seen as pro-China, asked India to withdraw its military personnel by March 15, following the Maldivian people’s mandate.

As of now, there are 88 Indian military personnel in the Maldives, and the situation reflects the delicate balance between the two nations.
