Meta’s latest social media app, Threads, is expected to soon receive support for a trending topics feature. This feature was accidentally spotted in a screenshot posted by a Meta employee. Since the launch of Threads in July this year, users have been requesting the trending topics feature to help them find the most discussed subjects on Meta’s Twitter/Ex rival, aiding in easier topic discovery and engagement.

Shortly after Threads made its debut, Instagram’s chief, Adam Mosseri, emphasized in an interview with The Verge that Threads wasn’t meant to be a Twitter replacement. Its primary goal was to establish a “shared hub for Instagram communities.”

Mosseri also shared his perspective, stating, “I acknowledge the significance of politics and serious news; I don’t want to downplay their importance. However, in terms of platforms, I firmly believe that the added engagement or revenue they might bring is not worth the extensive scrutiny, the inevitable negativity (let’s be realistic), and the potential risks to integrity that accompany them.”
